EDS Supports City of Philadelphia During Winter Storm Stella

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) is gearing up to support the City eds-smallof Philadelphia in response to the impending winter storm “Stella,” which is forecasted to hit Pennsylvania late Monday night, March 13, and into Tuesday, March 14.

EDS has been tapped by the city to distribute 150+ meals to staff at the city’s Emergency Operation Center starting Monday at 9 pm through Wednesday. EDS staff and volunteers are on stand-by with the city to assist with transporting homeless individuals to shelter, if needed. They may also be called upon by the city to distribute meals to homeless individuals sheltering in the subway stations in the Center City area.  In the meantime, EDS crews are finalizing preparations on their Salvation Army canteens and emergency response vehicles to ensure they will be able to maneuver the city streets in the snowy conditions. The Salvation Army of Reading Seeks Volunteers for After-School Program

Copy of IMG_0155The Salvation Army of Reading is in need of volunteers for its after-school program.  Up to 70 children in first through ninth grade are enrolled in the program, which is open Monday through Friday, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm, at The Salvation Army of Reading on S. 5th Street.

“Volunteers are especially valuable to our after-school program,” said Lt. Norristown Choice Pantry: Feeding Body & Soul

Norristown Choice Pantry Logo_Final_1Chelsea Johnson puts on her Salvation Army apron and smiles. She starts to open boxes of fresh fruit on the counter, as her mom, Donna Goodwin, organizes paperwork.  They volunteer together every week. Donna’s sister Joyce glances over the shelves stacked with canned goods and non-perishable foods. As the Pantry Coordinator, she wants to make sure everything is in place as they ready to open the door of the Choice Pantry on this Wednesday morning.

Pendel Mission to Cuba: Part Two

09_sfot-group-photoThe Salvation Army of Eastern PA and DE (Pendel) recently returned from Cuba on a special mission – to renovate the Salvation Army of Cuba’s current headquarters facility into a guest house. The guest house will provide income for the Cuba division and fund the construction of a new divisional headquarters. Additionally the group is engaging Cubans with music and arts ministries, as well as conducting the Sunday Services at the Central Corps.

The Pendel division has given tremendous support financially to this effort, including:  donated linens for the guest house, laptops, instruments, uniform shirts/ties/socks, toiletries and assorted items which were stuffed in the luggage and horn cases!

Pendel Mission to Cuba: Part One
