The Salvation Army of Norristown announced today it will be accepting applications from local families in need to receive holiday assistance. Members of the community may apply to receive Christmas food baskets and gifts for children age 12 and under. Captains Curtis and Felicia Flora, Corps Officers, The Salvation Army of Norristown, anticipate serving at least 600-700 families this holiday season.
“Everyone deserves a meaningful holiday celebration,” said Captain Curtis Flora. “Thanks to the generosity of the community and partner agencies, we are able to provide this assistance, along with hope and comfort, to those in need each year,” he added. Chelsea Johnson puts on her Salvation Army apron and smiles. She starts to open boxes of fresh fruit on the counter, as her mom, Donna Goodwin, organizes paperwork. They volunteer together every week. Donna’s sister Joyce glances over the shelves stacked with canned goods and non-perishable foods. As the Pantry Coordinator, she wants to make sure everything is in place as they ready to open the door of the Choice Pantry on this Wednesday morning.

One book, two communities,thousands inspired to make a difference
Hundreds of children and their parents hit the road to raise money for The Salvation Army of Norristown at the Maniac Magee Run for the Homeless! The sun was shining and Chatham Park Elementary was a sea of red t-shirts, as walkers and runners made their way through the neighborhoods surrounding the school for the one mile fun walk and two-mile run on Saturday, May 14.
