18th Annual Event Raises Money for Emergency Social Services for Berks County Residents
The Salvation Army of Reading presents the 18th annual Festival of Easter Baskets, Wednesday, March 21 through Saturday, March 24 at the Berkshire Mall in Wyomissing, PA. An estimated 75 creative gift baskets, designed and donated by local businesses, organizations and individuals, will be on display outside Boscov’s at the Berkshire Mall. During this time when individuals donate $1 or more to The Salvation Army, they will receive tickets to be entered into a random drawing for the basket of their choice. The drawing will occur at noon on Saturday, March 24 at Boscov’s. If winners are not present, they will be notified by phone to pick up their baskets.
Preparations are underway for The Salvation Army of Carlisle’s third annual Most Amazing Race, scheduled for Saturday, April 7 in Carlisle. This year’s theme is “Around the World.” The event, sponsored by M & T Bank, was inspired by the CBS show “The Amazing Race” and sends teams of two all over Carlisle in an effort to win a grand prize of $1,000. Second place finishers take home $500 and third place wins $250. The race starts and ends at the Carlisle Expo Center. From the starting line, teams will complete a challenge to get their clues which will then lead them to other checkpoints. Following the clues at each checkpoint, they must successfully complete challenges until they reach the end of the race.
The race will be five miles in length, encompassing eight stops, involving physical and mental skills, as well as activities that may include running or puzzle solving.

The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has all hands on deck as a winter snow storm is set to hit the region Tuesday night, March 6 and throughout Wednesday, March 7.
Snowfall amounts are forecasted at six to 12 inches throughout Greater Philadelphia, the Poconos and Northeast Pennsylvania, and three to six inches in Northern Delaware. The Salvation Army is ready to provide whatever support is necessary to city, county and state officials before, during and after the winter storm.
Red Kettle Fundraising Campaign Totals Down 50 Percent
With just ten days left until Christmas, The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware announced today that donations to its annual Red Kettle fundraising campaign are down throughout the region, presently at 50-percent of its overall goal.
The iconic tradition of bell ringers and red kettles is the most recognizable fundraising effort of The Salvation Army. Passersby can place monetary donations inside the red kettles, which will be stationed in prominent locations throughout the region until December 23. The Salvation Army of Norristown announced today it will be accepting applications from local families in need to receive holiday assistance. Members of the community may apply to receive Christmas food baskets and gifts for children age 12 and under. Captains Curtis and Felicia Flora, Corps Officers, The Salvation Army of Norristown, anticipate serving at least 600-700 families this holiday season.
