The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) is gearing up to support the City of Philadelphia in response to the impending winter storm “Stella,” which is forecasted to hit Pennsylvania late Monday night, March 13, and into Tuesday, March 14.
EDS has been tapped by the city to distribute 150+ meals to staff at the city’s Emergency Operation Center starting Monday at 9 pm through Wednesday. EDS staff and volunteers are on stand-by with the city to assist with transporting homeless individuals to shelter, if needed. They may also be called upon by the city to distribute meals to homeless individuals sheltering in the subway stations in the Center City area. In the meantime, EDS crews are finalizing preparations on their Salvation Army canteens and emergency response vehicles to ensure they will be able to maneuver the city streets in the snowy conditions. The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Unit stationed in Philadelphia will be supporting the City of Philadelphia by providing hydration to thousands of first responders on duty during the Democratic National Convention, July 23 through July 28.
The grassy fenced-in area on the corner of Broad and Brown Streets is somewhat of a special place for families at the Red Shield Residence. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia‘s transitional housing program is safe, loving, respectful and compassionate, providing families in crisis with shelter and services as they strive towards self-sufficiency. The yard next to the building is a space where families can let their kids play and enjoy some outdoor time together there as they navigate a difficult time in their lives. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters on Conshohocken Avenue was a flurry of activity the week of June 27, with the sound of power equipment echoing through the hallways. Teens with the faith-based group, World Changers, traveled from across the country on a mission trip to perform community service. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia was one of the local agencies blessed with their help for four days.

The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia is partnering with Christian Legal Clinics of Philadelphia to provide valuable legal counsel, as well as prayer, for those in need. This new free legal aid clinic at The Salvation Army Temple Corps Community Center, located at 1340 Brown Street, marks the first such program through Christian Legal Clinics in North Philadelphia. The partnership kicks-off with a special Expungement Clinic on Saturday, May 14, 9 am – noon, at The Salvation Army Temple Corps Community Center.
