May 1 Advocacy Day Puts Spotlight on Addressing Poverty in Keystone State
Salvation Army officers and staff from across Pennsylvania will convene at State Capitol in Harrisburg on Wednesday, May 1, to share with legislators the work The Salvation Army is doing to better the lives of tens of thousands of Pennsylvanians every day.
More than 150 Salvation Army representatives will meet their local representatives to discuss the need in their respective areas and describe the important services they provide to citizens, such as: food assistance, housing, social services, anti-human trafficking efforts, senior citizen and youth community programming, emergency disaster services, and much more. The Salvation Army of Harrisburg will soon embark on a long-anticipated journey. On September 10, 2018 – after more than 10 years of studies and planning – crews will break ground at 29th Street and Rudy Road and begin construction on a new Service and Worship Center
The project, scheduled for completion by late summer 2019, was designed to fill the need for increased program space for the Harrisburg Capital City Region. The current location at Green Street was constructed in 1954. With its mere 17,000 square feet, it no longer supports The Salvation Army’s local day-to-day functions.
