The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has activated teams in Schuylkill County in response to significant flooding from summer storms in several local communities today.
Staff and volunteers based at The Salvation Army of Pottsville and The Salvation Army’s Service Extension Unit are supplying meals for first responders and displaced residents in Tremont and Donaldson. They are also providing coffee, water, and snacks to emergency responders at a command center established in Frackville. Plans for a new Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) Command Center in Philadelphia are now underway. The project was formally unveiled to the public on July 17 at a reception at the historic Divine Lorraine Hotel. The “Celebration of Philanthropy” marked the launch of the project and honored philanthropists Stephen and Sandra Sheller of Philadelphia, whose generous $1,000,000 gift made the Command Center possible.

The Salvation Army of Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has all hands on deck as a winter snow storm is set to hit the region Tuesday night, March 6 and throughout Wednesday, March 7.
Snowfall amounts are forecasted at six to 12 inches throughout Greater Philadelphia, the Poconos and Northeast Pennsylvania, and three to six inches in Northern Delaware. The Salvation Army is ready to provide whatever support is necessary to city, county and state officials before, during and after the winter storm.
The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) is gearing up to support the City of Philadelphia in response to the impending winter storm “Stella,” which is forecasted to hit Pennsylvania late Monday night, March 13, and into Tuesday, March 14.
EDS has been tapped by the city to distribute 150+ meals to staff at the city’s Emergency Operation Center starting Monday at 9 pm through Wednesday. EDS staff and volunteers are on stand-by with the city to assist with transporting homeless individuals to shelter, if needed. They may also be called upon by the city to distribute meals to homeless individuals sheltering in the subway stations in the Center City area. In the meantime, EDS crews are finalizing preparations on their Salvation Army canteens and emergency response vehicles to ensure they will be able to maneuver the city streets in the snowy conditions.
