Winning Team Takes $1,000
Preparations are underway for The Salvation Army of Carlisle’s third annual Most Amazing Race, scheduled for Saturday, April 7 in Carlisle. This year’s theme is “Around the World.” The event, sponsored by M & T Bank, was inspired by the CBS show “The Amazing Race” and sends teams of two all over Carlisle in an effort to win a grand prize of $1,000. Second place finishers take home $500 and third place wins $250. The race starts and ends at the Carlisle Expo Center. From the starting line, teams will complete a challenge to get their clues which will then lead them to other checkpoints. Following the clues at each checkpoint, they must successfully complete challenges until they reach the end of the race.
The race will be five miles in length, encompassing eight stops, involving physical and mental skills, as well as activities that may include running or puzzle solving.
The Salvation Army of Carlisle has kicked-off a new program to engage local youth through the arts and volunteerism. It is called The Upper Room, a nod to where the young people gather to socialize at The Salvation Army on East Pomfret Street. The Upper Room provides free creative arts training, such as drama and dance, for individuals ages 15 to 22. Drama classes are led by Brad Cain, The Salvation Army of Eastern PA & DE’s Creative Arts Director, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Acting.
“This is a place where you can come to dig deeper into your talents and meet other people who want to grow,” said Cain. Continue reading “The Salvation Army of Carlisle Launches Creative Arts & Volunteer Program for Local Youth”
