Teen volunteers on a mission to serve The Salvation Army

IMG_3736The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia’s headquarters on Conshohocken Avenue was a flurry of activity the week of June 27, with the sound of power equipment echoing through the hallways.  Teens with the faith-based group, World Changers, traveled from across the country on a mission trip to perform community service. The Salvation Army Greater Philadelphia was one of the local agencies blessed with their help for four days.

Christmas in July Fundraiser Planned to benefit Summer Camp Program for Chester Youth

The Salvation Army of Chester Seeking Community Support to Raise $10K+ during 5-Day Event

Christmas in JulyThe Salvation Army of Chester will celebrate Christmas in July in an effort to raise much-needed funding for its summer camp program for underserved youth. The five-day event will take place July 18 through July 22, 11 am – 7 pm, at the ACME supermarket in Concordville Town Centre, US Route 1 and Route 322, Glen Mills. Dozens of volunteers will don red and green Hawaiian leis while they ring bells alongside The Salvation Army’s iconic red kettles to inspire ACME shoppers and passersby to make donations.

Despite a Year of Struggles, David is Still Shining

When you meet David Kimber, you can’t help but notice the big grin on his face.  And when you hear about all that he has been through in the last year, he definitely has every reason to smile.

“One day in July of 2015 a staff member noticed a lump on his neck,” said Sandy Breidegam, Program Coordinator for The Salvation Army’s Developmental Disabilities Program (DDP) in Montgomery County. “It got big really fast, within weeks,” she recalled.

They rushed David to urgent care and then to a local hospital, where tests revealed it was a cancerous tumor.

Fabric Fair Raises Money for Crucial Youth Services in York County

Hundreds Expected at The Salvation Army of York’s Annual Event

file000216150561Hundreds of quilters, seamstresses and needle crafters are expected at The Salvation Army of York’s upcoming annual Fabric Fair.

The greatly anticipated three-day event will be held:

  • Thursday, June 16, 10 am – 4 pm
  • Friday, June 17, 10 am – 7 pm
  • Saturday, June 18, 9 am – 11 am, and noon – 2 pm

The Salvation Army of Lancaster Awards 15 College Scholarships

The Soon-to-Be High School Grads Will be Honored at May 24 Awards Dinner

graduationThe Salvation Army of Lancaster will help 15 Lancaster County high school seniors further their education by awarding them college scholarships at a special dinner, 7 pm, Tuesday, May 24, at Eden Resort in Lancaster. The Olga Ruth Stratton Scholarship program provides at least $1,000 for tuition costs to each student selected. Amounts depend on a student’s need, circumstances and available scholarship funds.

Maniac Magee Run for the Homeless

One book, two communities,thousands inspired to make a difference

start of raceHundreds of children and their parents hit the road to raise money for The Salvation Army of Norristown at the Maniac Magee Run for the Homeless!  The sun was shining and Chatham Park Elementary was a sea of red t-shirts, as walkers and runners made their way through the neighborhoods surrounding the school for the one mile fun walk and two-mile run on Saturday, May 14.
