GIANT-CHOSEN-FOR-West Lawn Store to Donate $1 for Every Reusable Bag Sold

READING, PA — The Salvation Army of Reading has been selected as a beneficiary of the GIANT Bags 4 My Cause Program for the month of March.

The GIANT Bags 4 My Cause Program, which launched in February 2019, is a reusable bag program that facilitates community support with the goal to make a difference in the communities in which shoppers live and work. The program features the reusable Bags 4 My Cause bag with a special tag attached to it that allows customers to direct a donation to a non-profit of their choice upon purchase.

The Salvation Army of Reading was selected as the March beneficiary of the program by store leadership at the GIANT located at 2104 Van Reed Road, West Lawn. The Salvation Army of Reading will receive a $1 donation every time the reusable Bags 4 My Cause bag is purchased at this location during the month of March 2019, unless otherwise directed by the customer through the Giving Tag attached to the bag.

WI9A1506Funds raised through the Bags 4 My Cause Program at the West Lawn GIANT in March will support The Salvation Army of Reading’s food pantry, which provides nutritious non-perishable food to an estimated 200 – 250 struggling families each month.

“We are so grateful for the support of GIANT Food Stores and the generosity of its customers,” said Captain Ted Tressler, Corps Officer, The Salvation Army of Reading. “By participating in Bags 4 My Cause, shoppers are helping The Salvation Army address hunger and food insecurity in Berks County.”

The Salvation Army of Reading is committed to “doing the most good” in the community. Each year it serves more than 25,000 people in crisis through utility assistance, food distribution, holiday assistance, clothing and transportation vouchers and other emergency funds. It also provides permanent housing for chronically homeless and disabled individuals, a learning center with after-school programming, early childhood development, teen mentoring, summer camp, adult education classes, as well as Pathway of Hope, an intensive case management initiative to help motivated families achieve self-sufficiency.
