Preparations are underway for The Salvation Army of Carlisle’s third annual Most Amazing Race, scheduled for Saturday, April 7 in Carlisle.  This year’s theme is “Around the World.” The event, sponsored by M & T Bank, was inspired by the CBS show “The Amazing Race” and sends teams of two all over Carlisle in an effort to win a grand prize of $1,000. Second place finishers take home $500 and third place wins $250.  The race starts and ends at the Carlisle Expo Center. From the starting line, teams will complete a challenge to get their clues which will then lead them to other checkpoints. Following the clues at each checkpoint, they must successfully complete challenges until they reach the end of the race.

The race will be five miles in length, encompassing eight stops, involving physical and mental skills, as well as activities that may include running or puzzle solving.

“You don’t have to be an athlete to participate. You just need a partner and passion for problem-solving,” said Major Alma Riley, Corps Officer, The Salvation Army of Carlisle.

There is no “registration fee” to compete in the race, but teams of two must raise at least $250 to qualify for the event. Teams are encouraged to develop a fan base of friends and family members who may contribute electronically or by mail to their specific team’s goal. The top three fundraising teams will be awarded special advantages to give them an edge against their competitors.  The conclusion of the race involves a check presentation to the winning team as well as medals for other top ranking competitors.

“It’s a fun and unique event to raise money and awareness for our local programs and services,” Riley said.
