Hundreds Expected at The Salvation Army of York’s Annual Event
Hundreds of quilters, seamstresses and needle crafters are expected at The Salvation Army of York’s upcoming annual Fabric Fair.
The greatly anticipated three-day event will be held:
- Thursday, June 16, 10 am – 4 pm
- Friday, June 17, 10 am – 7 pm
- Saturday, June 18, 9 am – 11 am, and noon – 2 pm
Location: The Salvation Army of York, 124 South Duke Street, York.
The Salvation Army of York’s Women’s Auxiliary organized the Fabric Fair as a fundraiser to benefit The Salvation Army’s local youth services, which include after-school programming, summer day camp, community center recreation, as well as Bridging the Gap, which is a character building and life skills course presented by Salvation Army staff to fifth grade students in their own school classrooms during regular school day hours.
“We are extremely grateful for the on-going community support of the Fabric Fair,” said Major Erma Camuti, co-commanding officer, The Salvation Army of York. “This generosity is vital to sustaining and growing programs that serve our neighbors in need.”
All of the items sold at the Fabric Fair are the result of massive donations. For the past several months, dozens of local businesses and community members have been dropping off items by the truck load. Up for sale: fabric, quilting supplies, patterns, 70 sewing machines, yarn, craft items, needlework, beads, crafting books, rug-making supplies and much more. More than 30 volunteers will assist The Salvation Army of York staff during the three-day event, which promises to be the biggest to date. The Fabric Fair raised more than $13,000 in 2015.
“Events like this offer great deals to many quilting and sewing enthusiasts, while at the same time raise funds to enrich the lives of local children and families,” Major Camuti said.
The Salvation Army of York is committed to doing the most good in York County, serving more than 30,000 local individuals and families each year. In addition to extensive youth programming, it provides family emergency assistance (groceries, clothing, utility/rent assistance, prescription medications, etc.), home economics and nutrition education, women’s volleyball, men’s basketball, homeless outreach and emergency disaster services.
